Tanzania's community forest guardians

Mtandao wa Jamii wa Usimamizi wa Misitu Tanzania (MJUMITA) is Tanzania’s national network of community forests, empowering over 15,000 members across 504 villages to sustainably manage and protect more than 1.8 million hectares of forest.

As the country's only legally recognized community forest network, we support local people to secure land rights, strengthen forest governance, develop sustainable enterprises, and build climate resilience. Through advocacy, training, and grassroots leadership, we ensure that forests are conserved and that the communities who depend on them thrive. MJUIMTA proves that conservation is more equitable, effective, and built to last when communities lead.
