Mama Misitu Campaign

Between 2007 and 2016, MJUMITA co-led the Mama Misitu Campaign with TFCG and TRAFFIC to raise public awareness about forest laws and reduce illegal logging in Tanzania. The campaign used media, outreach, and village-level education to improve understanding of timber trade regulations, forest governance, and community rights. It also trained local leaders and forest monitors to enhance transparency and accountability in forest use. Mama Misitu reached millions with messages about responsible forestry and helped shift public discourse toward legality and sustainability. The campaign laid a strong foundation for future governance reforms in Tanzania’s forest sector.
